Emergency School Closure Procedure

Severe Weather Procedure

If the school should be closed for severe weather, the decision will be made as early as possible, and you will be notified by 08:00 at the latest.

We will contact Devon Transport Services, who hopefully will contact you. If not, we suggest that you contact the Driver/ Passenger direct. If you think that is any problem, it will be important to make sure you have their relevant telephone number (s). Please ask the Driver/ Passenger Assistant for their telephone number if you do not already have these.

We will also contact BBC Radio Devon, who will announce the schools that have been closed. School closures are also listed on the Devon County Council website at: School and route closures – children, families and education.

If there should be snow, and it settles during the school day, we may need to close the school early. We will make this decision as soon as we can to ensure the safety of the children.

We will contact you through the Arbor App or email in the first instance; please ensure that the school has your latest contact information and the Arbor App is downloaded on your phone with notifications turned on.

As you will know, the local weather can be quite unpredictable and ‘localised’. If following weather reports, you have concerns and feel you would rather keep your child at home, please report their absence to school as normal as early as possible. Please ensure that you also contact the Driver/ Passenger directly if your child is on transport so that they are aware.

We will always do our best to keep the school open – but sometimes closure will be the most appropriate step to ensure everyone’s safety.
